PolarMoment: Java Developer (Payment Industry Consultancy)

Java   J2se   Hornetq

£60,000 / £40,000 / Hampshire / London

Description

We are seeking candidates to join a large project either as developers or as higher level software designers.

The role involves the production, or use of, software designs expressed in UML and implementing them to match the customer’s requirements using a range of Java technologies.  There will be requirements to attend frequent progress meetings either at PM offices or at client locations.

Candidates with experience of the full development lifecycle from requirements analysis through to testing and customer acceptance are welcome to apply for designer roles; those whose experience is currently at the development level are welcome to apply as developers.

A degree in computing or equivalent, with at least a year’s experience after graduation, will suit developer candidates.  Designers will need between 2 to 5 year’s relevant experience.

Without a degree, a Java certification would be preferred.  Particular experience of HornetQ/JMS message design, broadcast equipment and associated protocols are an alternative to academic qualification.

The core requirement is a good understanding of Java technologies, particularly J2SE and HornetQ, although some J2EE experience would also be useful.  Other useful experience includes: MySQL, protocol design, XML, and user interface construction.  It is important that candidates are aware of software design patterns and the requirements of developing enterprise architecture.  The predominant operating system is Linux, although there are some Windows development possibilities.

Desirable experience / software:

Candidates with any knowledge of the broadcast industry are particularly welcome.  It is important to have a reasonable grasp of English; knowledge of another European language might be useful.  The main software tool will be Sparx Enterprise Architect and experience of this, or other UML-based tooling, is useful.

The project will be based on the delivery of incremental phases and development will be carried out loosely aligned to Agile processes.
