QMetric: Technology Expert / Architect / Team Lead (Insurance Startup)

Description

New Insurance venture / technology start-up seeks experienced Software Engineer for expansion of initial team involved in greenfield enterprise platform design and build. Founding team with proven industry experience backed by significant investment.

We are looking for someone to join this small, fast-paced and collaborative agile Development team who will be expected to drive technical excellence as well as take ownership of and build key platform components. You will be a software architect who codes or a developer who understands architecture.

The successful candidate will have 10 years experience developing leading web applications or high-throughput, transactional e-Commerce websites within a structured software development environment (not necessarily Agile).

Key capabilities will include:

A willingness to launch into deep technical issues head-first whilst understanding the difference between prototype and production
Ability to write bulletproof code and disciplined test coverage

Java pattern recognition and implementation
An interest in Software Development Methodologies and the latest industry advancements

A keenness to understand how technical decisions and integration can influence the overall Company

Important personal attributes will include:

A hands-on practical attitude to problem solving
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to influence colleagues at all levels within the Company
A flexible approach and a willingness to self-start with minimal supervision

Technical experience will include the following:

Excellent knowledge of the Java programming language, backed by significant hands-on exposure
Solid experience with SQL expressions and the fundamentals of relational databases

Exposure and in-depth understanding of web application containers and class loaders
Exposure to many of the Open Source frameworks relating to the Java language; Spring, Hibernate, Apache
Experience of highly-scalable cloud deployment environments such as Amazon Web Services and applications with high throughput would be a significant advantage
A very good understanding of the pros and cons of different development methodologies
A strong academic background, 2.1 minimum, preferably in a science-related subject

You can expect a very thorough interview process consisting of an initial technical test, coding and whiteboard exercises followed by in-depth technical meetings with team members. Although thorough, you can be assured that everyone in the team is committed to the same very high standards.
