About us

Handy Elephant is developing a productivity app for business professionals who have to maintain a large number of relationships across multiple channels (e.g. Phone, SMS, Email, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook).

Handy Elephant is like a Personal Assistant that tells users: (1) who they need to follow up with, (2) when the best time is to get in touch, (3) which channels will be most effective.

With our sophisticated data extraction and data warehousing technology, we deliver a user experience which is highly,

  • automated (no time wasted on manual data input)
  • seamless (Handy Elephant hooks into your daily routine)
  • proactive (if things are about to get worse, Handy Elephant will let you know)

With Handy Elephant, users can spend more time on generating business, and less time on managing contacts or data.

About the position

To accelerate the execution of our next steps, we are looking for an entrepreneurially minded Java Web Developer, with strong technical capabilities. Starting with us at this early stage, we are happy to treat you like a co-founder of the company, if you share our enthusiasm and commitment.

Responsibilities:

  • Backend design and implement the web app, focusing on efficient data extraction and processing
  • Design an integrated User Experience in a collaborative process with the rest of the team Making sure large parts of the code base works across multiple Java platforms (e.g. web, Android, Blackberry) to make the development process efficient
  • Designing efficient algorithms and data structures, as even mobile devices will have to handle large chunks of data. Thinking about Big-O is part of our daily routine.
  • Share your thoughts openly on the current development process and organisation (if you think we can make things better or more efficient, then we probably can!). As a company we work in an agile and flexible manner.
  • The current requirement specification includes web services and API design, REST, SOAP, XML, OAuth, Data Warehousing, Data Mining, caching, cloud hosting, JavaScript / jQuery and the Play Framework (let’s make Java web development fun!).

As a special challenge, you will have to familiarise yourself with (and apply) theories about social and network analysis as well as human decision making (part of our “secret sauce”). The position requires analytical as well as creative thinking, always with a strong focus on what provides value to our customers.

There are no fixed working hours (though full-time commitment is expected) and you will be able to choose when and how you can achieve the most.
