Media for Development (MFD) has secured seed funding to create the UK’s first social enterprise app development business: Pocket Change. We want to create a business that has a sound strategy and is able to compete commercially with other app development companies but also drives innovative projects that use mobile technology to drive change in the Third Sector and Public Sector markets, where we believe the scope for social impact and the creation of disruptive technology is massive.

We envisage a business that will be:

Media for Development is a leading social media innovations company that uses the creative power of media to work with marginalised communities and individuals in ways which build confidence and new skills, and enables people to participate more fully in society. We are a team of dedicated media professionals who believe that the creative power of media can be applied to finding solutions to some of society’s more intractable problems. We manage radio and TV stations in prisons which offer people new skills and opportunities to change their lives for the better, community film projects which encourage people to think about themselves in more positive ways, and online digital platforms which get young people talking to each other and working out how best to handle life’s everyday problems. Who we are looking for:

We are looking for a Digital Business Consultant who can guide us through the formative period of the business focusing on business development, growth strategies, business plans, innovation, marketing, intellectual property, raising finance, business growth, collaborations and innovation.

Working alongside the Pocket Change team in a development role the ideal candidate will have extensive networks of personal and professional contacts in the creative and digital industries, a strong track record as an entrepreneur and a vision of how mobile applications and technology can be used to disrupt traditional service delivery models. Pocket Change is in the start-up phase and whilst we have secured seed funding, someone who is comfortable working with a lean and agile business model is a must.
